Assistant Estimator - Construction

Location: Charlotte, NC (close to city center)

Salary: $60,000 – $80,000 DOE

My client is a well-established general contractor with both interiors and ground-up divisions, with plans to grow 30% over the next few years. The Opportunity

They are seeking an Assistant Estimator to work alongside a Senior Estimator and gain hands-on experience in preconstruction. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent construction graduate who is eager to learn, grow, and build a career within a respected GC.

This role is not just about crunching numbers— you’ll have exposure across the business, including preconstruction, project management, and the field, giving you a 360° view of how projects come together.

What You’ll Do

• Assist in developing detailed cost estimates for commercial projects, from conceptual through final design.
• Perform quantity takeoffs (including sitework).
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals.
• Review construction documents and identify scopes of work.
• Support the preconstruction team with bid management and documentation.
• Participate in job walks, pre-bid meetings, and site visits as needed.
• Maintain organized records of estimates, proposals, and historical data.
• Engage with subcontractors and suppliers by phone—this role requires someone who’s not afraid to pick up the phone.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field (required).
• No experience needed—just a strong desire to learn, listen, and grow within a company.
• Excellent character, motivation, and the ability to work well with others.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to take initiative.
• Desire to build a long-term career in preconstruction.
• Experience with Procore or prior GC internships a plus, but not required.
