The Paramedic, under the direction of the Operational Medical Director, performs care appropriate to the patient population served and meets routine and life-threatening patient care needs. The Paramedic may be required to respond under routine or emergency conditions; assess the scene for hazards; triage multiple patients, especially in mass casualty situations; provide assessment, stabilization and treatment of life-threatening conditions utilizing skills within the Paramedic scope of practice, and within the protocols set forth by the Operational Medical Director. The Paramedic will also provide routine, non-emergent care and transportation to patients as needed by ambulance.
Duties • Assesses nature and extent of illness / injury to establish and prioritize medical care. • Provides appropriate patient care interventions such skills may include but are not limited to basic life support needs, IV insertion, and fluid and medication administration, advanced airway techniques, cardiac rhythm interpretations and monitoring, pacing and defibrillation. • Provides emergent care, routine and nonemergent care, and transportation to patients as needed by ambulance.
• Gathers and submits appropriate patient data necessary for continued treatment. • Demonstrates ability to prioritize multiple tasks to accomplish work assignments in a timely manner. • Completes documentation and submits in a timely manner.
• Interacts and communicates information and ideas to all levels of personnel within the organization. • Ability to recognize conflicts with personnel, patients, and other customers and to appropriately intervene. • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications • High School Diploma or GED • Virginia Paramedic or EMT-Intermediate certification required. • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR required. • VAVRS or VDFP EVOC required.
• Hazardous Materials Awareness required within the first year of employment. • FEMA ICS 100, 200, and 700 Preferred Qualifications • Associate degree in healthcare or related field • Previous pre-hospital EMS or transport experience • National registry paramedic. Travel Required Travel is expected to be between 10% and 25% of the time.
