Job Overview The Physician Assistant (PA) II surgical specialist is a licensed health professional practicing medicine under physician supervision, primarily assisting in surgery. The role includes care coordination, patient education, and clinical practice engagement. The PA collaborates with healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care, including assisting in surgeries, obtaining histories, performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting tests, counseling on preventative care, and performing procedures as authorized by privileges and practice agreements. Essential Duties Assist surgeon during surgical procedures, including tissue retraction and suturing; perform additional surgical duties based on specialty training and privileges. Obtain detailed medical histories, perform physical exams, and record findings. Develop and implement patient management plans, coordinate referrals, and ensure continuity of care pre- and post-operation. Order and interpret diagnostic tests and therapies, including medications and consultations. Perform or interpret routine diagnostic procedures. Support preoperative and postoperative care coordination. Manage complex illnesses under physician supervision, providing patient education and counseling. Facilitate referrals to other health and social services. Ensure accurate billing for services rendered. Mentor and precept new physician assistants. Participate in quality improvement, process enhancement, or research projects. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program. At least 3 years of relevant experience. Commitment to excellent patient care and customer service. Effective teamwork and communication skills. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Over 3 years of experience in a surgical specialty. Licenses and Certifications Physician Assistant license (CA DCA) Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association Fire Life Safety Training (LA City), if applicable Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) National Certification from NCCPA DEA Controlled Substances Certificate Additional Details Annual salary range: $158,080.00 - $260,832.00.
