As a Sales Engineer youll help customers understand, adopt, and implement our advanced lighting technologies. Youll also act as a technical advisor on the sales team, ensuring customers receive tailored, technically sound solutions that meet their specific needs. This role supports pre-sales engineering, solution design, product training, and ongoing technical guidance throughout the customer journey.

Who will I report to? Sales Leader (CEO in interim)

Salary: $90,000-$120,000

Location: In-person (Ballston Spa, NY), travel required

What roles am I accountable for?

1. System Design & Applications Engineering (55%)

  • Develop and refine lighting layouts, calculations, and control schematics
  • Engage with customers to understand application challenges and goals
  • Listen actively to customer issues and desired outcomes to recommend tailored solutions
  • Identify available products or creative methods to accomplish customer objectives
  • Recommend optimal product solutions based on performance, application, and ROI
  • Provide guidance on installation methods and integration with customer systems
  • Serve as the primary technical resource during pre-sale engagements
  • Assist with the preparation of detailed proposals, system layouts, and technical documentation

2. Sales Enablement & Training (25%)

  • Support sales team and independent reps with technical insight, tools, and documentation as needed
  • Provide training on new products, technologies, and system design best practices
  • Create sales support materials (FAQs, competitive comparisons, performance charts)
  • Collaborate with marketing and product teams to create customer-facing materials

3. Post-Sale Support & Continuous Improvement (20%)

  • Provide transition support from sales to operations and project teams
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in coordination with engineering
  • Collect and relay field insights, recurring challenges, and customer feedback to inform product development and innovation
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in tools, processes, and customer engagement, helping shape future offerings and enhance overall customer experience
  • Proactively suggest enhancements to existing products and contribute ideas for new features based on user behavior and needs

What will I need to succeed?

  • Must align with our Core Values
  • 3-5+ years of experience in sales engineering, applications engineering, or technical sales support
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering or Engineering Technology degree
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to various customer locations throughout the US
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Proficiency in layout and design tools (e.g., Visual, AGi32, Revit, AutoCAD, or similar)
  • Familiarity with CRM, quoting tools, and sales support platforms
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with sales, engineering, and operations
  • Bonus: Experience with industrial, commercial, or architectural lighting applications
