Job Title: Criminal Defense Law Clerk
Location: Birmingham, Alabama

Responsibilities:

• Conduct legal research on Alabama criminal statutes, case law, rules of procedure, and evidentiary issues.
• Draft motions, memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents under attorney supervision.
• Assist in trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, reviewing discovery, and preparing witness materials.
• Attend hearings, pleas, and trials to observe, take notes, and provide attorney support as permitted.
• Summarize police reports, witness interviews, and discovery materials.
• Maintain case files and ensure accurate documentation and filing of legal materials.
• Perform administrative tasks as needed to support case progression.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school (Alabama Bar admission not required but a plus).
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Demonstrated interest in criminal defense and Alabama criminal law.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, Filevine).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior internship or experience in a criminal defense or prosecution setting.
• Familiarity with Alabama court systems and e-filing platforms.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Salary: $55,000 – $60,000 annually (commensurate with experience).

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
